Paul Toddler Car Seats Your Questions

Paul questions…

Are any of the universal car seat carriers compatible with convertible infant-to-toddler car seats?

Specifically, I’m interested in purchasing the Cosco Scenara 5-point convertible seat if it will fit in a Kolcraft Universal Car Seat Carrier. Does anyone happen to know where I can conveniently find a *complete* listing of which seats are compatible with this carrier, or perhaps one like it?

whatwhat answers:

Convertible seats do not ‘detach’ from a base, and therefore need to be installed in a car, checked by a CPS technician and left alone. Taking in and out often is a pain and you risk reinstalling terribly. Convertible seats were not made to be used with car seats. If you were wanting to still be able to see your baby while he’s in the stroller, buy a stroller with a reversible handle or seat so he can either face you or face out. Some names to look for are: Graco Coachrider, and several of Peg Perego strollers. Also, lots of older strollers had reversible handles, My favorite is the Kolcraft Ranger, though it’s hard to find. Visit garage sales or check craigslist.com and you’re likely to find several older strollers where you can switch the handle around so you can see him while he’s in the stroller.
The Scenera is a excellent choice for a seat, b/c it has a high rear facing limit, and infants/toddlers should be kept rear facing for as long as possible, until they reach the maximum weight/height requirement of the seat rear facing. (See link below)

Sandra questions…

Does anyone know of toddler car seats that are very narrow?

I have a very thin, tall 3 1/2 year ancient boy, 31lbs. And a chubby 17 month ancient boy, 29 lbs, but very tall. I am expexting another baby in May and I wanted to get the boys matching booster seats, but they need to be very narrow in order to fit the baby seat inbetween them in a few months. Does anyone have any suggestions? They are both still too small to use the type of booster seat without a back.

whatwhat answers:

I know the need for narrow car seats, but, you don’t want the boys to be on top of each other or the new baby. Being squashed in the back seat does not make for pleased kids, or a pleased mommy. My advice is to find a vehicle with a larger back seat. I know this sounds expensive, but if the family is more pleased and able to delight in each other’s company more, I reckon it’s worth it. Excellent luck!

Mark Toddler Car Seats Your Questions

Mark questions…

Are there any baby/toddler car seats that fit in the middle seat of a car?

The middle seat only has a lap belt, not a 3 point seat belt.
It is ok, just managed to find Britax do a couple of car seats that fit in the centre seat with a lap belt only. The Britax Eclipse Si is narrow also.

whatwhat answers:

You really should go to get the seat installed professionally.

Robert questions…

What are some four wheel drive vehicles that has a third row seat for toddler car seats?

whatwhat answers:

The very best if you require actual four-wheel drive (versus all-wheel drive) would be the Ford Expedition. Not only is it a superb vehicle with exceptional reliability and safety features, it’s in-vehicle technology like SYNC and its integrated multimedia options makes it unlike any other in terms of keeping everyone safe, comfortable and entertained.

You’ll find yourself with far more options if you extend your search to include AWD. Most notably, you can start to delight in the wealth of unitized vehicles rather than body-on-frame truck styles. For hauling toddlers, there’s nothing more safe or comfortable than the Ford Flex. It’s a winner and reviewers favorite in every regard, not to mention a top NHTSA and IIHS safety pick.

Best of luck. I hope this helps.
