Nancy questions…
Baby gifts for someone having their second baby?
What kind of gift would you get a friend who is having her second baby? Her younger daughter is 2.
She is not having a shower, so I don’t know what to give. She probably already has tons of clothes and toys.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.
whatwhat answers:
Well i would get a photo of her and her belly and go to wal-mart, to the photo area, and have them but it on a blanket… They do lots of cool photo gifts, you should check it out.

Mark questions…
Do “baby gifts” received outside of a baby shower or birthday party require a written thank you card?
Our baby is 7 weeks ancient, and we get random gifts from family or friends (mainly clothes or toys) – even those that attended the baby shower. Does etiquette dictate that we write thank you cards to all these people?
We did write “hand written” thank you notes to everyone that was at the shower, etc.
whatwhat answers:
I am an avid thank you card writer but I have to admit that the one time you get excused from this is when you have a baby. You don’t have the time. My rule was: If the person gave it to me in person, I gushed and gushed and said thank you there no thank you card needed. Also, if I knew I was going to see the person in person, I would say thank you then – again no card. I only gave a formal thank you card when I wasn’t going to see the person any time soon. In all honesty I even just called them to say thank you which everyone appreciated much more than a card that was just going to go in recycle.
You could do what I was “going to do” but never did it due to lack of time. Order a greeting photo card through shutterfly or other online site with several of the new baby’s photos and in the generic message write…Thank you to everyone for their wonderful gifts, support and kindness. We are humbled by your generosity!” That way people get their thank you AND pics of the kiddo which you will have to send out anyway. Genius huh!

Linda questions…
What baby gifts would you want to receive most?
Seems like the gifts are all repetitive and I want to give something that is different.
whatwhat answers:
I would go for some other sort of help then….
Ive had 5 babies and although Ive never had a baby shower, Ive been given a lot of gifts afterwards, some that Ive used, some I havent.
It would depend on how well you know the mum. If she is family or a close friend I would make some cool Certificates.
Something along the lines of
*this certificate entitles the bearer to – (make up your own hours etc) – Free house cleaning or – Babysitting (must be used before baby turns 18 years ancient) lol. Or something along those lines.
I for one, wouldve much prefered just to have someone to talk to, as so many people reckon “I dont want to bother them with their new baby” when infact with my first baby, I was incredibly lonely and had hardly any visitors.
Excellent on you for thinking outside the square.

Donna questions…
What are some excellent thoughts for home made baby gifts besides diaper cakes and quilting?
My sister-in-law is having her baby shower in one week and I am just so excited I wanna make more things! But don’t have that much money as I am a college student so I have already made a diaper cake and baby sock rose bouquet is there ANY other things to make that do not require knitting/quilting? She is having a baby boy!

Why not make a new mummy tool kit?
Get a pretty basket and fill it with the things she will need as a new mum-eg. A toiletries bag full of small pamper products for the hospital, picture hooks so she can hang all the pictures of her small bundle of joy, a small travel sewing kit ( I am always reaching for mine to mend the tears of my best friends childrens clothes!), travel tissues as new mums can get rather teary, and a small novel in one of her fave types to help fend off the boredom that often hits new mums.
